Area 2 surrounds M98 (Minneapolis approach) on the north and east sides with 7 sectors. Area 2 traffic is predominately arrival and departure flows from MSP and satellite airports, however Area 2 also works a variety of traffic situations. The high altitude sectors (15, 16, 22) work east-west over- flights as well as MSP and satellite departures and arrivals. Sector 16 works the arrival side, blending two arrival streams to one prior to handoff to low altitude. Sector 15 works the departure side, which consists of two M98 SIDS to the southeast. The low altitude sectors are a combination of terminal feeder (6, 10), departure flow (21), and approach control service (5). Sector 6 sits below sector 16 and works the arrivals to the M98 boundary. Sector 21 works the departure SIDS from M98 and sits below sector 15. Sector 10 works the terminal feeder traffic from the north, as well as limited approach control service to central Minnesota airports. Sector 5 works approach control service to western Wisconsin airports, provides flight following to VFR aircraft and works low level itinerant traffic inbound to M98 airspace. There are 3 part time airport control towers in Area 2. Area 2 is adjacent to and requires coordination with: M98, RST Approach, DLH Approach, VOK Approach, ZCG, and ZMP Areas 1, 3, 4, and 5.
